Water:
Most of the water in Hidalgo comes from underground aquafers located within El Potrero Chico. Many drink the water out of the tap and have been fine. I prefer the purified water that can be bought at any deposito. I once had a friend from Mexico city that said "not even I drink the water in Mexico". His reason was that if a cow is up stream and decides to drop some of his business into the aquafer or stream you can bet on becoming sick. There have been times when a group of climbers have become sick with some sort of stomach virus, unknown if it was water or food. If you stay with purified water you eliminate the X factor. Time lost sick and money for clinic or hospital visits.
Grocery Store: Fruteria La Mano de Dios located on Dr.Mier st south of the main square in town. This is a very nice store with all the fruits, veggies, and food you wish for.

Market day provides fresh veggies, taco stands, clothing, shoes, canned goods and dry foods.
