HEAVY RAINS-FLOODING
Heavy rains during the
month of July 2002 that caused flooding in San Antonio, New Braunfuls, and Austin took it's toll on the town of Hidalgo, Mexico.
Some of the worst flooding in over 100 years. The heavy rains caused major erosion, dropping the park floor by 10-12 ft. no
longer allowing you to park at the pavilion. Once a road ,now 30 ton boulders and debris cover the floor of the Potrero.
None of the routes nor climbing have been affected. The bridge that was built to make a passable entrance over the river bed
no longer exists. A park that was once filled with tejano music and laughter has become a place of solitude.
UPDATE-
A NEW PARK
The road and bridge entrance to El Potrero Chico has been completely rebuilt and resurfaced. Driving into
the park is much easier and quickly accessible. A new pipe system for water delivery is being placed. Most of the road to
and from El Potrero Chico has been trenched in order to provide a better water delivery system to the small communities surrounding
El Potrero Chico.
ROUTE'S
Development continued this summer, look for the newest routes.

December 29th is Cabalgata (Horse Ride):
Approx 100 Cowboys from Salinas Victoria will ride to El Potrero Chico and meet at El Toro deposito (Homeros store) at the
entrance of the park.
Homero is asking for Climbers who have old climbing ropes to bring them during the year. He
